Route of the 2nd Maribor Eco-Marathon
From the start on Titova Cesta in the centre of Maribor we set off to Kamnice, 5 km away, where the route continues along Cesta v Rošpoh in the direction of Kungota. After riding 20 km to the old border crossing at Jurij, we leave Slovenia and continue into Austria. Outside the village of Leutschach (at approximately the 29 km mark), we turn left onto the Slovene-Austrian Cycling Trail. We now face a 3 km climb into the Kozjak/Possruck hills. Though not easy, the climb is at least short. At km 33 we reach the peak (573 m, or roughly the same height as Sveti Urban, the hill outside Maribor). At the top of the hill we cross the yard of the Postl winery and farm. We then cross back into Slovenia and descend into the Drava Valley and Ožbalt. At the village of Ožbalt we turn left onto the main road, where we have to give way (caution!). After crossing the Drava via the bridge at Lovrenc, we face the last climb, to Činžat. We then return through Ruše and Limbuš to Titova Cesta in Maribor.
