Graz - Maribor cycling trail

Cities, wine and thermal spas! Three countries, two rivers, plenty of nature and culture. The tour, which runs from the European City of Culture 2003 to the European City of Culture 2012 is varied. A unique cycle tour through southeastern Styria and northeastern Slovenia. Local and regional culinary delights and unique wines that grown between the Mur and the Drau rivers await you on the border of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. The thermal spas around Bad Radkersburg refresh body and soul on the way from the cultural city of Graz to Maribor, where the Habsburgs have left their traces.

It all starts in Graz, the epicurean capital of Austria. It continues via Southern Styrian Wine Country and Vulkanland towards Bad Radkersburg with its thermal spa, perhaps the most beautiful cycling region in Austria. You will be accompanied along the way by vineyards as well as pumpkin and maize fields. Excursion destinations such as Seggau Castle hear Leibnitz invite you to stop off. In Bad Radkersburg there is endless cycling as far as Ljutomer in Slovenia. This little town has had to accept its fate numerous times, as it has been repeatedly ravaged by the plague, the Ottomans and the Crusaders. The latter established themselves in Jeruzalem near Ljotomer and built an outpost on the way to the Holy Land. Today this is one of the best wine regions in Slovenia.

The long trail leads to Ptuj, Slovenia's oldest town, and via the River Drau Cycling Trail to Maribor, where the world's oldest grape vine awaits you. You can travel the return route from Maribor to Graz, your starting point, by bike or in comfort on the train.
