Krakau valley

It is also called the "g'sunde Tal" ("the healthy valley"), because regular guests at this high Alpine valley between 1,000 and 1,500 metres, say that the best air is here. Large, sunny and fog-free, it lies on the south side of the Schladminger Tauern. The cross-country skiing trails lead through unspoilt countryside. And a free shuttle bus goes between the "Jagawirt" and "Klausnerberg" centres.

Guests are particularly taken with the "Märchenloipe" ("Fairytale Trail"). It leads to the Prebertal and takes its name not from fairytale characters, but the fairytale landscape through which it leads.

24 kilometres long with a total of three trails. 5 kilometres of these are suitable for skating-style skiing and 4 kilometres are really for the professionals to take on.

And, as in every Styrian cross-country skiing region that is awarded with the seal of quality, the trails are not the only pleasure here. In Krakautal there are 39 kilometres of well-maintained winter hiking trails, which, in addition to horse-drawn sleigh rides, tobogganing and Austrian curling, are great alternatives for spending a day away from your skis.
